CPEN Exam Content Outline
Domains, priorities, and blueprint-based preparation
The official CPEN blueprint defines the examinable scope. Use the domains below as a working checklist, but use the linked official outline for current weights and task statements.
Core Domains
- Pediatric assessment, triage, and stabilization
- Respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies
- Neurological, medical, and surgical emergencies
- Pediatric trauma, toxicology, and environmental emergencies
- Developmental needs, family-centered care, and professional issues
- 300 practice questions with detailed answer explanations
How to Build a Study Matrix
- Record the current official weight for every domain
- Mark each topic as explain, apply, or remediate
- Map every missed practice question to one domain
- Allocate more time to heavily weighted weak areas
- Recheck the official outline before the examination
Avoid False Coverage
Reading a chapter once is not evidence of mastery. Require yourself to explain the concept, apply it to a new scenario, and identify why plausible alternatives are wrong.
