The CWOCN (Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse) is administered by WOCNCB. It requires passing three separate specialty exams — wound care, ostomy care, and continence care — and is considered the gold standard in WOC nursing.
How many questions are on the CWOCN exam?
The CWOCN consists of three separate exams, each with 120 questions and a 2-hour time limit (6 hours total). Pass rates: Wound 70.52%, Ostomy 80.57%, Continence 75.36%. The wound exam has the lowest pass rate.
Do I need to take all three CWOCN exams at once?
No. You can schedule them separately within a 6-month window. All three must be passed within 12 months of application to receive the CWOCN credential. The cost is $610 for all three exams.
What is the difference between Traditional and Experiential pathways for CWOCN?
Traditional requires graduation from a WOCN-accredited education program. Experiential requires 50 CE hours plus 1,500 clinical hours per specialty (4,500 total for all three). Both pathways require a BSN or higher degree.
