The Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) is a two-day, high-stakes licensure examination required for dental practice in the United States. It is administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE), an agency of the American Dental Association (ADA).

How many questions are on the INBDE?

The INBDE consists of 500 items over two days: Day 1 has 360 standalone items across three sections, and Day 2 has 140 items including case-based Patient Box questions. Total testing time is 12.5 hours.

What is the INBDE passing score?

The INBDE uses a scaled scoring system from 49 to 99, with a passing score of 75. The scoring is criterion-referenced, meaning it is not curved — every candidate who demonstrates sufficient knowledge passes.

How much does the INBDE cost?

The INBDE costs $880 for the 2025-2026 testing year. A bundle with DLOSCE is available for $1,080. The exam is offered year-round at Prometric testing centers.
